The Coalition of Private Schools in Ghana (COPSIG) has intensified its commitment to promoting health and wellbeing among school communities through its dedicated health programme. As part of this initiative, COPSIG continues to implement a range of preventive activities aimed at reducing illness among school children, parents, teachers, and the wider community, with efforts largely focused on improving sanitation practices — recognizing their critical role in maintaining good health and preventing disease outbreaks.
NHIS Renewal: 10,000+ Beneficiaries and Counting
COPSIG has renewed the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for over 10,000 parents, teachers and school children across the country as part of its commitment to promoting the health and well-being of the private education community. The initiative is designed to help beneficiaries maintain active NHIS coverage and reduce financial and other barriers to accessing essential healthcare services when needed.
COPSIG considers the health and well-being of learners, teachers and parents an essential part of building a strong and sustainable private education sector. The Coalition therefore continues to implement practical programmes that go beyond the classroom to directly improve the lives of members of the private school community.
This ongoing effort ensures that members of the school community can access healthcare services without difficulty whenever the need arises. According to the organisation, providing easy access to healthcare not only safeguards lives but also enables individuals to effectively carry out their daily responsibilities — healthy students learn better, while healthy teachers and parents contribute more productively to education and community development.
“We believe that education cannot be separated from the health and well-being of the people within the education community. We will therefore continue to pursue practical programmes that provide meaningful support to school owners, heads, teachers, parents and learners.”— Rev. Nelson Aho, Director of Partnership & Operations, COPSIG
Coalition's Four Pillars of Impact
According to Rev. Nelson Aho, COPSIG will continue to expand the initiative because healthcare support forms part of the Coalition's four major programme areas: Education, Health, Sports, and Empowerment. The NHIS renewal programme is part of COPSIG's broader commitment to strengthening private education through advocacy, strategic partnerships, and sustainable development initiatives.
COPSIG maintains that its health interventions — particularly in sanitation and healthcare access — remain central to building stronger, healthier school environments across Ghana. The Coalition remains committed to building a united, resilient and sustainable private education sector that prioritises the welfare of learners and supports the people who make education possible.
