The Coalition of Private Schools in Ghana (COPSIG) has called on all private schools across Ghana to intensify education on adolescent reproductive health and hygiene during this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Month.
In an official statement signed by Mrs. Richlove Avor, Director of Gender, Inclusion and Social Development at COPSIG, the organization encouraged schools to organize health-centered activities aimed at educating learners on proper hygiene, reproductive health, and responsible lifestyle choices.
According to the statement, the initiative forms part of COPSIG’s ongoing health program designed to help children and teenagers grow into “healthy, confident, responsible and well-informed young people.”
Schools have been encouraged to host a variety of activities including health talks, seminars, guidance and counseling sessions, menstrual hygiene education, personal hygiene demonstrations, and community engagement programs. The organization also emphasized the importance of teaching respect, dignity, and child protection among students.
The campaign seeks to educate both boys and girls on key topics such as puberty, menstrual hygiene management, personal cleanliness, disease prevention, and adolescent health rights. COPSIG noted that creating safe and supportive learning environments remains essential for the wellbeing and confidence of students across the country.
“As stakeholders in education and child development, we must continue to create safe and supportive learning environments where every child can learn with confidence and dignity,” the statement said.
The organization further urged proprietors, headteachers, and teachers to actively participate in the awareness drive and contribute toward building healthier schools and stronger communities in Ghana. Schools were also encouraged to share photographs of their activities to support nationwide promotion and reporting of the initiative.
